Father Harrison: Snapshots of Brimfield and Its People
Interview Date: Recordings made from 1935 and 1950
Father Thomas Harrison was the priest at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Brimfield, Illinois from 1931–1968. He had a movie camera and filmed events and people around town in addition to church activities. The recordings seem to start around 1935 and go through 1950. The original movies had no sound; only moving pictures. The individual reels of film were put together, likely by Willard Hasselbacher, and a group of local people met to include a narration with identification of events, places, and people. The finished video was put on a CD for distribution to local people.
There are many service men and women from World War II who were filmed in their uniforms and with their families. A few of them died in service to their country. This is possibly one of the last glimpses of them that exist.
Below is a time stamp for this two-hour film. The newly added audio is not of high quality so there are certainly names that are inaudible and not included below. There are likely spelling issues with names and places. When searching for names, places, and dates use spelling variations if needed. The quality of the images is also poor and in some cases is too dark to identify the location, time period, or people.
